Ash Wednesday 2010

Pastor Mason Beecroft, 02/17/2010

When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting.

Jesus had no patience for hypocrites. In fact, His most venemous attacks were directed toward them. While Jesus is definitely opposed to all sin, every violation of God’s Law, He spends little time in His ministry dealing with the sins that would get our attention. Now we would like to hear Jesus condemn the really bad people, you know, the murderers, the child abusers, the wife beaters, the sexually immoral, extortionists, robbers and thiefs and other scoundrels. Yet Jesus spends little time or energy on those sins. Instead, He saves His harshest condemnations for those whom he called hypocrites, people who would have been the most respected and revered citizens and religious leaders of the day, people we would consider good folk.
