Homily by Associate Pastor Chris Tiews, 01/06/2010
Today, January 6, we celebrate the Festival of Epiphany.
An epiphany is a sudden manifestation of the essence of something.
In the context of today’s Festival it means a sudden understanding of the true identity of Jesus Christ.
Today is when Western Christianity observes the event of the Wise Men, the so-called “Magi” who visit the Baby Jesus.
This visit is recorded only once in Scripture, namely in Mt 2—today’s Gospel reading.
