Sermon by Associate Pastor Chris Tiews, 10/04/2009
Who could imagine a wider gulf, a deeper chasm, a greater divide—than between the son of a man working in a copper mine—and an emperor?
In this corner… we have a man of the people…
A man who regarded himself as a commoner—and whose father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were peasants.
Yet this man with the humble background—born in a small village in central Germany—would rock the foundations of Western civilization.
And in this corner…we have an emperor, the ruler of vast domains in Central, Western, Southern Europe, and of the Spanish colonies in the Americas and in the Far East.
