Vicar Chris Tiews, 03/04/2009
During these six weeks of Lent we will be walking through the Six Chief Parts of Luther’s Small Catechism.
This is why, in this second mid-week Lenten service, we are taking a look at the second Chief Part, that is, the Apostles’ Creed.
As you know, even though it was not literally written by the twelve apostles, what we today know as the Apostles’ Creed is a faithful Confession of the doctrine that Christ handed down to the apostles.
Most historians date the origin of the Apostles’ Creed to 5th century Gaul—in the region we today know as France—while the earliest known concrete historical evidence of the Creed dates to AD 390.
