37th Annual Knippa Lecture 2024

Please join us in person at the 37th Annual Knippa Interfaith/Ecumenical Lecture on Sun., Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 5th and S. Lewis Ave. in Tulsa, OK. Distinguished faith leader and author Kate Braestrup will be our guest lecturer.

Rev. Braestrup divides her time between her service as chaplain to the Maine Warden Service and her writing. Her most recent book— "Anchors and Flares"—reminds us that the threats we cannot predict have the power to knit us together as much as to rip us apart and that, as parents, we are as often called upon to bear loving witness as to be a guiding light. Other notable books by Braestrup include "Here If You Need Me," "Marriage and Other Acts of Charity," and "Beginner's Grace."

Braestrup is a popular public speaker around the country and abroad, entertaining and educating interested audiences with her characteristic honesty, good humor and poignancy.

Beyond Reasonable Doubt

2023 HIGHER THINGS CONFERENCES

JULY 18-21, 2023
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
CARBONDALE, IL

Doubt. We confess to being poor miserable sinners every week but it can be hard to confess to wondering if there’s even a God who exists to listen at all. Doubt crept into the apostles’ hearts but we’re afraid of what it means if we find it in our own. The devil sets a trap to leave you feeling alone, cut off from the christians around you who don’t seem to struggle like you. What if it’s not real?

Jesus isn’t just some guy. He died and then didn’t stay dead. That’s our hope. You can even prove it. God gives us verifiable scripture that can be traced and upheld through history. You just can’t by your own reason or strength believe it. So He speaks to us, doubting hearts and minds that can’t quite help but question.

The same thing is the core of our hope and our worldview: the resurrection. Because it’s real. The gospel proclaimed by the Spirit to our hearts is something God dares us to question with our minds. If Christ has not been raised from the dead, we are above all to be pitied. So test it. There is evidence. This is the defense of the faith that defends you. It’s called “apologetics.” Your hope is rooted in a historic event, not in your own reason and strength.

O Ye of little faith, why did you doubt? It isn’t a challenge. It’s a call to be the one Jesus pulls from sinking waters. Like Peter. This is where you start to find your identity and belonging. You’re not cut off from Christ in this doubt…If you must doubt, doubt boldly.

In the summer of 2023 we’ll tackle a faith that isn’t a fairytale, and we’ll prove it. Beyond Reasonable Doubt.

National Youth Gathering (NYG) 2022

About the Gathering

Held every 3 years since 1980, the LCMS Youth Gathering provides thousands of youth and adults the opportunity to come together as a community of God’s people to be encouraged in their walk with Jesus Christ and learn about the Christian faith and their Lutheran identity.

The Gathering is more than the five days of the event. The preparation process for the Gathering brings together young people and supportive adults to encourage each other in their baptismal identity. The Gathering provides young people a vision for the vastness of Christ’s Church and equips them for vocational service as they continue their walk with Jesus.

This event is organized by LCMS Youth Ministry in Saint Louis, MO. For additional ways to connect to LCMS Youth Ministry, please visit www.lcms.org/youth.
